Frequently Asked Questions

Will it hurt?

Yes, it can hurt - but almost never as much as you're anticipating. Pain levels depend on placement, your pain tolerance, and the length of the session.

How much does a tattoo cost?

I charge by the piece, not by the hour. This allows us to take necessary breaks and not feel rushed during the session. The price is determined by a number of things such as the size of the piece and the level of detail in the design. You will always be quoted during the consultation process, and I am always happy to work within your budget. My minimum charge is $150.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Keep the area moisturised leading up to the day, avoid alcohol the night before, get a good nights sleep, stay hydrated and have something to eat before coming in.

Do I need to shave the area?

You can, but it's not required. I will do this before placing the stencil.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Something comfortable that allows easy access to the area being tattooed. Please wear something that you wouldn't mind if it gets stained with ink.

Can I bring a support person?

Absolutely! However, due to the size of our studio please limit it to one support person. Any additional people will have to wait in our waiting area.

Can I use numbing cream?

Yes, but please talk to me about this before the day as there are specific ones I will not tattoo with. If you show up with one of these creams already applied we will need to reschedule your session. Please also note that the use of numbing cream may also void your complimentary touch up, as I cannot guarantee how the ink will take to your skin once the area has been numbed.

Can you tattoo over scars or stretch marks?

This will depend on the age of the scar, it's texture and severity. I will let you know during the consultation if I am able to tattoo over your scars and/or stretch marks.

Will my tattoo fade over time?

All tattoos change over time as you age and your skin loses elasticity. Some colours also tend to fade quicker than others. Proper aftercare and sun protection will help with the longevity of your tattoos.

AFTERCARE

Taking care of your new tattoo is absolutely essential for keeping it vibrant, preventing infection, and minimising the chance you’ll need touch-ups later. A well-healed tattoo will look better for longer, so following these steps gives your artwork the best chance to stay crisp and beautiful. Your tattoo is essentially an open wound, and the first few weeks of healing are the most important for ensuring it sets properly into your skin.

Whether your tattoo is small and simple or large with detailed shading, aftercare needs can differ slightly. Smaller tattoos or those with fine line work may heal faster and produce less scabbing, while larger pieces or tattoos with heavy shading can generate more plasma, swelling, and scabbing—requiring extra care and patience to heal fully.

Here’s your step-by-step guide:

1. Leave the wrap on for an hour after your appointment. This initial covering protects your fresh tattoo from bacteria and dirt.

2. Wash your hands thoroughly, then gently remove the wrap and wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Don’t scrub—use your fingers to carefully remove any plasma or ink residue.

3. Pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. Avoid using regular towels, as they can harbour bacteria and irritate your tattoo.

4. Once your tattoo is dry, apply a very thin layer of Savlon antiseptic cream—it’s a good option for keeping the area moisturised and protected. Reapply Savlon 1–2 times a day for the first 5–7 days, but don’t overdo it; too much cream can suffocate your tattoo and cause excessive scabbing.

5. Avoid soaking your tattoo—no baths, swimming pools, spas, or direct water pressure for at least 2 weeks. Quick showers are fine, but avoid letting water beat directly on your tattoo.

6. Do not scratch or pick at scabs or flaking skin, even if it itches. Let it peel naturally to avoid pulling out ink.

7. Keep your tattoo out of the sun, and don’t apply sunscreen until it’s fully healed (usually after 3–4 weeks). Once healed, daily SPF helps keep colours from fading.

8. Wear loose, clean clothing over your tattoo to prevent rubbing, which can irritate or damage healing skin.

Remember: healing times vary—smaller tattoos can fully heal in about 2 weeks, while larger pieces may take up to a month or more. If you notice signs of infection like redness spreading beyond the tattoo, severe pain, pus, or fever, seek medical advice immediately.
